Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang says we need to ‘deal with social norms’ surrounding AI but apparently that means ‘just go engage it’
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang addressed concerns about artificial intelligence at Computex Taiwan, responding to questions about whether AI itself troubles people or whether society lacks structures to adapt to rapid technological change. Huang stated that it’s “a combination of all that” and emphasized the need for a multifaceted approach.
“You have to deal with regulation, technology, you have to deal with social norms,” Huang explained, framing AI’s integration into society as a challenge similar to those humanity has faced before. To illustrate his point, he drew a historical parallel with the automobile industry. When automobiles first emerged, society harbored concerns about their safety, particularly regarding children. Rather than reject the technology, society adapted by establishing new safety norms—such as teaching children not to play in the street and implementing other traffic safety measures.
Huang suggested AI adoption should follow a similar pattern, with society adjusting its expectations and behaviors to accommodate the technology through appropriate regulations and social norm changes. His remarks highlight the importance of societal adaptation in managing the integration of artificial intelligence into modern life.
