Dark Souls 2 seamless co-op mod is “close” to being playtest-ready, having morphed into one of its creator’s “most complicated and ambitious projects to date”
Prolific FromSoftware multiplayer modder Yui has announced that their Dark Souls 2 seamless co-op mod is approaching alpha testing readiness. The mod marks one of Yui’s “most complicated and ambitious projects to date,” despite building on their established experience creating seamless co-op modifications for other FromSoftware titles including Elden Ring, Nightreign, and the original Dark Souls.
According to Yui, Dark Souls 2 presents unique technical challenges that distinguish it from other FromSoftware games. The developer characterized it as “an entirely different beast” compared to Elden Ring and the original Dark Souls, suggesting that the game’s architecture requires novel approaches to implementing seamless multiplayer functionality. This complexity has expanded the scope of the project well beyond what Yui initially anticipated.
Yui showcased the mod’s development progress in a recent YouTube video, providing the modding community with a detailed look at the work underway. While an exact release date remains unconfirmed, the announcement that the mod is “close” to alpha testing suggests that players may soon have the opportunity to help shape the final product through early testing phases.
