Final Fantasy Tactics Remaster Adds New Game+, but War of the Lions Content Still Missing
Square Enix released update 1.5.0 for Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles on June 17, introducing New Game+ mode to the remaster for the first time. The feature allows players to carry over their units and inventory from a completed playthrough into a fresh game cycle, enabling continued progression and grinding up to Level 100. The original 1998 Final Fantasy Tactics never included this mode, making it a significant addition to the classic turn-based strategy title.
Alongside New Game+, the update delivers quality-of-life improvements including UI enhancements and the ability to view unit status effects during gameplay. The new mode has sparked community discussion about how it reshapes the Ramza narrative experience and what strategic possibilities it unlocks for returning players.
Despite the addition, the update does not address a persistent gap: content from War of the Lions, the enhanced 2007 PSP port, remains absent. The Ivalice Chronicles continues to function primarily as a modernized version of the original PS1 game rather than a comprehensive compilation drawing from the full Final Fantasy Tactics legacy.
