‘Density Over Scale’: Open World Cyberpunk Shooter No Law Has Serious Potential on PS5
Swedish developer Neon Giant has provided new details about its upcoming PS5 cyberpunk shooter, No Law, during a presentation at Unreal Fest 2026. Originally announced at The Game Awards last year, the game is being positioned as a story-driven, action-packed experience with RPG elements.
Rather than pursuing the industry trend of maximizing open world map size, Neon Giant is prioritizing what it calls “density over scale.” The studio’s design philosophy focuses on creating a rich, detailed open world city rather than emphasizing sheer landmass. This approach reflects the team’s commitment to crafting meaningful player experiences within a more carefully designed urban environment.
The 20-person team of veteran developers is leveraging Unreal Engine 5 to bring their cyberpunk vision to life on PS5. By concentrating development resources on a smaller but more densely crafted space, Neon Giant appears to be betting that quality and variety will outweigh quantity in player appeal. This strategy stands in contrast to many contemporary open world games that measure success primarily by playable area size.
