No Law’s Dense Cybergrunge City Might Just Be the Most Alive Open World Ever Created

No Law is an upcoming cyberpunk-style open-world action adventure from Neon Giant, the studio behind the acclaimed cyberpunk twin-stick shooter The Ascent. The game shifts to a first-person perspective and significantly expands the environmental fidelity and attention to detail that defined its predecessor.

Rather than pursuing the sheer scale of massive open worlds like CD Projekt Red’s Night City, No Law prioritizes density and verticality in its setting of Port Desire. The city features thousands of NPCs and numerous buildings that players can enter and explore, creating a rich, interconnected urban environment packed with interactive content.

Co-founders and co-creative directors Tor Frick and Arcade Berg made the strategic decision early in development to focus on density and fidelity over scale. This design philosophy allows Neon Giant to concentrate on crafting a living, breathing city with intricate details and meaningful interactions rather than competing through sheer size.

The game is being developed using Unreal Engine and was showcased at this year’s Unreal Fest. The transition from The Ascent’s top-down perspective to a first-person viewpoint in a full open world represents a significant evolution for Neon Giant while maintaining the studio’s signature focus on environmental storytelling and visual polish.
