Waku Waku Games launches a new 2.5D first-person shooter on Nintendo Switch on June 18th for $9.99. The Last Salvage Squad combines retro sci-fi aesthetics with single-player action gameplay.
Set in a post-apocalyptic Earth, the game depicts humanity devastated by an alien invasion. A massive alien spaceship descended upon the planet and unleashed devastating combat weapons that swiftly destroyed human civilization. Although humans managed to develop specialized weapons capable of effectively combating the alien threat, they deployed them too late to prevent the catastrophe.
Earth remains far from silent despite its ruins. The planet is now defended by autonomous units called “CogrinaUnits”—12-meter-tall autonomous humanoid machines that have taken up the fight against the invading aliens. These mechanical units continue to scavenge and operate the remaining specialized weapons left behind by humanity, using them in an ongoing battle against the extraterrestrial forces.
The game’s retro sci-fi inspirations are evident in its enemy and weapon design. As a single-player experience, it focuses on combat action as players control the CogrinaUnits in their mission to defend Earth’s ruins from ongoing alien threats. The combination of distinctive visual style, compelling post-apocalyptic premise, and arcade-style FPS gameplay aims to appeal to Switch owners seeking action-focused gaming experiences with retro aesthetics.
