Falcons stun Vitality to make Semi-Finals of IEM Cologne 2026 Major
The IEM Cologne 2026 Major Counter-Strike tournament reached its semi-final stage following a dramatic Friday of quarter-final matches at the Lanxess Arena.
Team Spirit narrowly advanced to the semi-finals after defeating G2 in an instant classic that featured five overtimes across two maps—four of which took place on the third map, Mirage. Despite competing without their coach Sergey ‘hally’ Shavayev, Spirit found solutions against a well-prepared G2 roster in what will be remembered as one of Counter-Strike history’s most intense matchups. G2’s Nikita ‘HeavyGod’ Martynenko delivered significant impact throughout the series, including a dominant five-round run on the T-side of Overpass.
In the second quarter-final, Falcons delivered a stunning upset by defeating the heavily favored Vitality 2-1. All three maps went the full distance of 24 rounds, with Falcons’ victory notably preventing Vitality from claiming their third consecutive Counter-Strike Major title. This result marked one of the tournament’s most significant surprises.
The semi-final bracket now features Spirit facing Falcons, while Furia takes on Aurora. These matchups will determine which teams advance to the grand finals of one of Counter-Strike’s most prestigious events.
