The company has revised reservation estimates to manage customer expectations, with some orders not expected to be fulfilled until 2027.

Due to high demand, Valve implemented a reservation queue system where interested customers await notification when stock becomes available. The company now provides three estimated delivery windows: September 2026, December 2026, and 2027, with more specific dates to follow for the latest cohort.

The bottleneck partly stems from Steam Controller sales being restricted to Valve’s official Steam storefront, eliminating retail distribution channels. In an official statement, Valve acknowledged the situation, noting that the controller’s reception “exceeded our expectations” and emphasizing transparency about shipping timelines. The company stated it has “no plans to stop making Steam Controller,” suggesting continued manufacturing efforts to eventually clear the backlog.
