Capcom Created a ‘Diana Police’ Team for PRAGMATA
Capcom’s new IP PRAGMATA, one of the company’s best-selling games of 2026, benefited from an unconventional development practice to perfect its protagonist’s android companion. The game follows Hugh, a space-faring protagonist, and Diana, his android companion, whose relationship mirrors that of a father and daughter. To ensure Diana would feel authentically childlike without becoming irritating to players, Capcom assembled a specialized task force called the “Diana Police.”
The group of women worked directly with the development team to refine Diana’s character portrayal, helping strike the delicate balance between endearing and grating. The collaborative approach appears to have succeeded, with the Hugh-Diana relationship receiving widespread praise for being genuinely sweet and well-handled—a notable achievement in the “dad game” subgenre, which has historically drawn criticism for its depiction of father-child dynamics.
Game producer Naoto Oyama and the broader development team credited the “Diana Police” with ensuring Diana felt natural and resonant. The game’s combat system is mechanically tied to Hugh and Diana’s emotional connection, making the quality of their relationship integral to gameplay and narrative. Capcom publicly celebrated PRAGMATA’s success through a Japanese livestream that coincided with Father’s Day festivities, underscoring the thematic importance of the protagonist’s relationship with his android companion. The initiative demonstrates how incorporating diverse perspectives during character development can contribute to more nuanced and well-received storytelling in games.
