The Witcher 4 dev still not convinced it’s fully redeemed for Cyberpunk 2077

CD Projekt Red CEO Michał Nowakowski has acknowledged that the studio has not yet fully recovered its reputation following Cyberpunk 2077’s troubled 2020 launch. Despite the game’s significant improvement since its release and its current cultural relevance, the executive believes the developer’s redemption arc remains incomplete.

In an interview with Edge, Nowakowski stated, “I’m not 100 percent convinced we went through the full redemption arc.” He acknowledged that while some trust has been restored through post-launch updates and improvements, certain players have permanently lost faith in the studio. “I’m convinced that we lost the faith of some people indefinitely, and that’s a fair thing,” he said.

The CEO expressed hope that upcoming projects—particularly The Witcher 4—could serve as the catalyst for restoring the studio’s reputation and completing their redemption journey. If not with the upcoming Witcher title, Nowakowski indicated that future releases would be opportunities to rebuild trust with the gaming community.

Cyberpunk 2077’s 2020 launch was marked by significant technical issues, performance problems, and unmet player expectations, resulting in widespread criticism and damage to CD Projekt Red’s reputation. However, years of post-launch support and the Phantom Liberty expansion have substantially improved player perception of the game.
