Civilization 7 finally gets hotseat local multiplayer via a new update out today, which also makes cities moodier and overhauls governments
Civilization 7 has received update 1.4.1, released June 23rd, bringing the long-requested feature of hotseat local multiplayer to the turn-based strategy game. The update enables multiple players to compete against one another on a single PC by taking turns controlling their respective civilizations—recreating the classic board game experience in digital form.
Beyond the multiplayer functionality, the update introduces substantial refinements to core gameplay systems. Cities have been enhanced with more pronounced moods and emotional states that affect gameplay dynamics. Additionally, the government system has undergone a comprehensive overhaul, providing players with greater depth in managing their civilizations’ political structures and policies.
This update follows the significant Test of Time update that previously introduced the ability to play through multiple eras with a single civilization within a single game session. Developer Firaxis continues to expand Civilization 7’s feature set with additions that both satisfy the franchise’s classic expectations and address modern gameplay desires for local multiplayer experiences.
