EA Has Shut Down Servers For An Underrated Battlefield Game

Electronic Arts has permanently shut down multiplayer servers for Battlefield Hardline on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One as of June 22, 2026. The closure marks the end of over a decade of service for the cops-and-robbers themed entry in the Battlefield franchise, which, despite never achieving mainstream blockbuster status, cultivated a dedicated core community.

The server shutdown was previously announced in March 2026, with players given advance notice of the June closure date. The game was also delisted from digital storefronts ahead of the server shutdown. Players documented their farewells to the underrated title in its final hours online.

While Battlefield Hardline may have been overlooked compared to other entries in the franchise, its longevity and the community response to its sunset illustrates both the challenges facing live-service games and the broader issue of game preservation. The closure represents another example of players losing permanent access to titles once their publishers discontinue server support.
