God of War Laufey is not a new idea, nor is the talking jelly cube - Cory Barlog was apparently discussing it back in 2018

God of War Laufey, featuring Faye as the protagonist, was officially revealed at Summer Game Fest as part of a record-breaking State of Play presentation. The game marks a significant franchise shift, moving away from Kratos as the primary character. According to actress Deborah Ann Woll, who voices Faye in both Ragnarok and Laufey, the concept for giving Faye her own game originated much earlier than recent announcements suggest. Woll revealed that the idea existed as far back as 2018, when Faye was first introduced as Kratos’ wife in the God of War reboot. She disclosed this information during an appearance at Game Con Canada, indicating that the game’s development concept has been part of the franchise’s long-term creative vision for years. Director Cory Barlog was apparently discussing the concept and other creative elements, such as the game’s unique “talking jelly cube” character, back in 2018 as well.
