The Magic School Bus movie is officially happening with the perfect director
A live-action adaptation of The Magic School Bus is officially in development, as announced by The Hollywood Reporter on June 23. Director Rob Letterman, known for the 2015 Goosebumps film and Pokémon: Detective Pikachu, will helm the project, while Elizabeth Banks has been cast as the iconic Ms. Frizzle.
The film joins a growing wave of nostalgia-driven revivals targeting millennials who grew up in the 1980s and 1990s. This comes as other childhood properties are experiencing modern reboots, including Masters of the Universe (now in theaters), an upcoming Thundercats movie, and X-Men ‘97 season 2 heading to Disney Plus.
With Letterman’s track record in adapting beloved intellectual property for live-action audiences and Banks’ proven ability to lead major productions, the casting and directorial choices suggest a thoughtful approach to bringing the educational science adventure series to the screen.
