MIO: Memories In Orbit Developer Douze Dixièmes Shutting Down
Douze Dixièmes, the independent French developer behind MIO: Memories in Orbit, is shutting down just five months after releasing its flagship title. The studio’s closure comes following the commercial underperformance of MIO: Memories in Orbit, despite receiving positive critical reviews upon launch.
The game released in January to critical acclaim but failed to meet commercial expectations. Following the disappointing sales performance, publisher Focus Entertainment terminated its relationship with Douze Dixièmes, leaving the small studio uncertain about its future. According to French journalist Gauthier Andres, the studio’s co-founders subsequently purchased back their shares from Focus Entertainment, which enabled them to proceed with shutting down operations.
The closure further illustrates the challenging landscape facing independent developers, where critical success does not guarantee commercial viability or long-term sustainability. MIO: Memories in Orbit’s case exemplifies the pressures indie studios face when commercial performance fails to align with critical reception, particularly when publisher support is withdrawn.
