Sega Shadow-Drops Sonic Frontiers - Definitive Edition On Switch 2

Sonic Frontiers - Definitive Edition has officially launched on Nintendo Switch 2, ending weeks of speculation surrounding the port. The release was widely anticipated following persistent leaks throughout 2026.

The Switch 2 version represents an upgraded iteration of the 2022 platformer, featuring improved graphics and enhanced performance compared to the original Nintendo Switch release. Beyond visual upgrades, the Definitive Edition consolidates previously released DLC content into a single package, including the “Final Horizon” story campaign, “Sonic’s Birthday Bash” content update, “Sights, Sounds, and Speed” updates, a digital art book, and a mini soundtrack.

Sega is offering both digital and physical versions of the title. However, the physical release utilizes the Game-Key Card system, meaning purchasers must download substantial data to play regardless of edition. Notably, there is no upgrade path available for players who already own the game on the original Nintendo Switch, requiring a full repurchase to access the enhanced version on Switch 2.
