Sonic the Hedgehog pinball table revealed on franchise’s 35th anniversary
Sega and pinball manufacturer Jersey Jack Pinball have unveiled Sonic the Hedgehog, the franchise’s first dedicated pinball machine, launching June 23rd on the occasion of Sonic’s 35th anniversary. While the hedgehog has previously appeared in pinball-inspired game modes within mainline titles, this marks the first time the character has been featured in a legitimate standalone pinball table.
The design was led by veteran pinball designer Steve Ritchie, known in the industry as the “King of Flow.” Ritchie emphasized speed as the defining characteristic of the table, calling it “the fastest game I’ve ever made.” This high-velocity design is achieved through magnetized ramps that accelerate the ball at speeds intended to evoke Sonic’s signature gameplay mechanics.
This collaboration extends Sonic’s expanding presence beyond traditional video games into movies, television, and physical entertainment experiences, demonstrating the franchise’s enduring appeal and adaptability across diverse media formats.
