“Classic Sonic” Joins Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds In A Free Update This Week
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is receiving a wave of new content to celebrate Sonic’s 35th anniversary, despite the game selling below expectations. Starting immediately, players can race as Classic Sonic, with additional characters Axel from Crazy Taxi arriving in August 2026 and Amigo from Samba De Amigo in September 2026. A new Sega Music Collection featuring deep cuts from titles like Space Channel 5 and Burning Rangers will also be added.
The updates are part of SEGA’s commitment to a second year of free and paid content for the kart racer. Previously announced Season Pass 2 content includes Godzilla and Evangelion collaborations, with additional details to follow later in 2026. This continues a pattern of substantial crossover DLC that has included Pac-Man, Minecraft, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles licensing.
Despite disappointing commercial performance, SEGA is maintaining robust post-launch support for the game, which has been praised as one of the strongest kart racers currently available. The developer’s continued investment suggests confidence in the game’s long-term appeal and community engagement.
