Redout Dev Now Fully Independent, Teases ‘Major Title’ Based on ‘Revered’ IP
Italian game development studio 34BigThings has officially regained full independence following a buyback of its shares from Embracer Group, which acquired the company in 2020. Co-founder Valerio Di Donato led the acquisition of the shares, restoring autonomous operation alongside fellow co-founder Giuseppe Enrico Franchi and CFO Daniel Giagnorio.
The team views its tenure under Embracer constructively, crediting the holding company with providing structural stability and resources that facilitated significant growth—positioning 34BigThings as Italy’s second-largest development studio, behind only Milestone. The return to independence occurs as the studio teases an upcoming “major title” based on undisclosed “revered” intellectual property.
34BigThings is known for developing the Redout racing franchise and Carmageddon: Rogue Shift. The move represents a significant shift in ownership structure, though leadership emphasized that the Embracer period provided valuable development experience and organizational insight that will inform its independent future.
