Incredibles director Brad Bird’s Ray Gunn gets Netflix streaming date
Skydance Animation and Netflix have announced a December release date for Brad Bird’s next sci-fi animated feature, Ray Gunn. The acclaimed director, known for The Iron Giant, The Incredibles franchise, and Ratatouille, returns to feature filmmaking nearly eight years after The Incredibles 2 (2018).
The film’s development history spans decades. Bird originally wrote a script version in 1996 while working at Warner Bros. Animation, making it one of the longest gestating projects in the director’s career. Ray Gunn blends retro-futuristic science fiction with classic noir detective storytelling—a hybrid Bird has described as “Maltese Falcon meets Buck Rogers.” The film will stream exclusively on Netflix, continuing the platform’s investment in high-profile animated content.
