Fortnite Begins Reselling Old Battle Pass Skins in Next Update
Fortnite is reversing a long-standing policy with the introduction of “Unvaulted,” a new program that will resell cosmetic items from previous battle passes through the in-game shop. Starting June 28, 2026, players will be able to purchase battle pass content they may have missed in prior seasons—a practice that was previously prohibited.
The initiative launches with Marvel-themed outfits from Chapter 5, Season 4 (Absolute Doom), which ran from August 16 to November 2, 2024. The first batch of items will be released as bundles and include iconic characters such as Doctor Doom, Mysterio, Shuri, War Machine, Gwenpool, Emma Frost, and a Captain America variant of Fortnite’s Jonesy character.
This move marks a significant policy shift for Epic Games. The company had previously pledged that battle pass content would remain exclusive to those who purchased the pass during its availability window, making them essential purchases for players who wanted access to specific skins. However, this approach ultimately excluded newer players from acquiring cosmetics released years earlier.
The “Unvaulted” program addresses this limitation, allowing players to complete their cosmetic collections and giving Epic Games an additional revenue stream. The decision reflects a broader industry trend among live-service games that balance player retention with monetization.
