GTA 6 will seemingly only launch with the single-player campaign in November
Rockstar Games has confirmed that Grand Theft Auto 6 will launch as a “single-player experience” on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, with no mention of an online multiplayer component at launch. The confirmation came ahead of pre-orders going live on June 25, appearing in official product descriptions on PlayStation.com and Xbox.com.
This mirrors the launch of GTA 5 in 2013, which initially released without its GTA Online component—though that arrived approximately two weeks after the main game’s launch. However, Rockstar has remained entirely silent on whether GTA Online will return for GTA 6, when it might launch, and in what form.
The absence of any online mode at launch has caught many players off guard, given GTA Online’s enormous financial success for Rockstar. According to leaked financial data, GTA Online generated an average of $1.3 million per day between September 2025 and April 2026, making it one of the most lucrative live-service components in gaming.
Key questions remain unanswered: Will GTA Online eventually release as free downloadable content within GTA 6? Will Rockstar charge for it as a separate purchase? Or will it become a standalone experience similar to how GTA Online evolved in the current generation? The studio has provided no timeline or commitments. Pre-orders are available for a standard edition and an Ultimate Edition, the latter including premium vehicles, weapons, and apparel, plus a complimentary month of GTA Plus subscription.
