Sony wants you to know GTA 6 “will play best on PS5”, and here’s why

Sony has announced that Grand Theft Auto 6 “plays best on PS5,” highlighting a close partnership between Sony Interactive Entertainment and Rockstar Games. The PlayStation 5 version, launching November 19, 2026, will leverage several console-specific features not available on Xbox Series X/S versions.

The PS5 implementation takes advantage of the DualSense controller’s haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, which will provide dynamic resistance and vibrations responding to in-game actions. The controller’s integrated speaker will also deliver unique sound effects during gameplay. The console’s Tempest 3D audio technology will create immersive surround sound, enhancing environmental audio design.

Most notably, the PS5’s ultra-fast SSD will enable near-instant or “near-zero” loading times, potentially eliminating loading screens that have been a series staple since the original Grand Theft Auto 3. This represents a significant quality-of-life improvement over previous entries.

Sony also confirmed that GTA 6 will be PS5 Pro Enhanced, though specific details about those enhancements remain unspecified. The marketing push coincides with pre-orders launching soon, with the game priced at $80. The physical edition notably ships without a disc.

While these features represent standard PlayStation 5 capabilities marketed since the console’s 2020 launch, their implementation in a game of GTA 6’s scale demonstrates how developers are leveraging next-generation hardware for meaningful improvements to gameplay and immersion. Xbox Series X/S players will experience the game without these PS5-exclusive enhancements.
