“To further refine and strengthen the overall experience”: The sequel to this Xbox Game Pass Soulslike got delayed into 2027, but I don’t mind after reading why
Lords of the Fallen 2 has been delayed to Q1 2027, with developers announcing the extended timeline to “further refine and strengthen the overall experience” and ensure “the highest possible quality at launch.”
The sequel to the 2023 Lords of the Fallen reboot, available on Xbox Game Pass, will now release in the first quarter of 2027. The original Lords of the Fallen has established itself as a respected Soulslike entry on Game Pass, standing alongside other well-received titles in the genre such as Lies of P and Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, which are also available on the service.
Soulikes—action RPGs drawing inspiration from FromSoftware’s Dark Souls and Elden Ring franchises—represent an increasingly crowded genre. While numerous Soulslike titles have emerged in recent years, many lack the refinement and polish characteristic of FromSoftware’s own work. Lords of the Fallen has demonstrated it can compete in this space, earning recognition as one of Game Pass’s strongest Soulslike offerings.
The decision to extend the development timeline reflects the studio’s commitment to quality for the highly anticipated sequel, with the additional development time aimed at ensuring the sequel meets or exceeds player expectations established by its predecessor.
