A new Rick and Morty spinoff premieres right after the season 9 finale

The ninth season finale of Rick and Morty will air on Adult Swim on July 26, 2026, followed immediately by the premiere of a new spinoff series titled President Curtis. The announcement was made at the Annecy Festival, where showrunners Dan Harmon and James Siciliano detailed the creative origins of the project.

The spinoff centers on President Andre Curtis, a character portrayed by Keith David in the season 5 episode “Rick & Morty’s Thanksploitation Spectacular.” In that episode, Rick transforms himself into a turkey to seek a presidential pardon from Curtis, leading to a confrontation that reveals the U.S. government harbors numerous unusual secrets. Inspired by this episode, the writers’ room decided Curtis embodied their vision of a “fantasy president,” prompting them to develop a full series around the character.

Harmon and Siciliano discussed the spinoff’s creative direction and challenges during the festival panel. The immediate back-to-back premiere of President Curtis following the season 9 finale suggests Adult Swim’s confidence in retaining viewers and building momentum for the new series.
