Windows 11 just got a major upgrade to PC recovery, and it finally protects your personal files
Microsoft has launched point-in-time restore for Windows 11, a new recovery feature now available to general users across Enterprise, Pro, and Home editions. The feature automatically creates restore points that allow users to revert their PC to a previous state if system issues occur.
The new capability significantly streamlines PC recovery, with Microsoft reporting that the process can now be completed in minutes rather than hours. When enabled, point-in-time restore automatically captures the complete system state of a user’s PC, including Windows itself, installed applications, and system and application configurations.
This update addresses a long-standing pain point for Windows users who have experienced system failures or corrupted installations. By providing seamless full-system restoration capabilities to general users, Microsoft has democratized recovery functionality that was previously more limited or complex to access. The automatic capture of restore points means users don’t need to manually create backups or remember to initiate recovery processes.
