Italian studio 34BigThings regains independence from Embracer
Italian video game developer 34BigThings has regained full independence from Embracer Group after studio co-founder Valerio Di Donato reacquired 100 percent of the company’s shares. The studio was originally acquired by the Swedish conglomerate in November 2020 but has now successfully returned to private ownership.
With over 70 employees, 34BigThings is now positioned as the second-largest independent video game studio in Italy. The studio is known for developing titles including Carmageddon Rogue Shift and Redout II.
Following the transition, the studio will be led by head of studio and co-founder Giuseppe Enrico Franchi, working alongside a streamlined board of directors consisting of Valerio Di Donato and CFO Daniel Giagnorio. Franchi stated that regaining independence will provide the studio with “absolute autonomy,” suggesting the separation will grant the company greater creative and operational freedom moving forward.
