Invader Zim Publishing Rights Have Been Acquired by BOOM! Studios, Who Promises Classic Stories and New Original Content - Exclusive

BOOM! Studios has acquired the publishing rights to Invader Zim, the cult classic animated series, announcing plans to release both reprinted classic stories and original new content beginning later this year.

The publisher intends to bring back out-of-print material alongside entirely new stories featuring the beloved characters Zim, GIR, Dib, and Gaz. According to Bryce Carlson, VP of Business Development & Special Projects at Random House Worlds, the franchise has “maintained the passionate, enduring fanbase” that justified the acquisition. Specific details about creative teams, release formats, and exclusive editions will be revealed in the coming months.

The move reflects a growing trend of reviving classic properties with dedicated fan communities. By combining hard-to-find reprinted material with fresh content that promises “entirely new invasions, conspiracies, and catastrophically ridiculous adventures,” BOOM! Studios aims to serve longtime enthusiasts while introducing the series to new audiences. The staggered rollout of announcements is designed to maintain momentum and build anticipation as the publishing program develops.
