Bungie Studio Head Is Reportedly Stepping Down

Justin Truman, Bungie’s studio head, has stepped down following significant layoffs announced by the Washington-based Sony studio. Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier confirmed the departure via sources familiar with the situation.

Truman, who assumed the role less than a year ago after Pete Parsons’ departure in fall 2025, vacated the position amid studio turmoil. Bungie announced that due to Destiny 2 performing “short of expectations these past several years,” most of the Destiny team has been laid off, with additional staff reductions affecting the Marathon team.

While an exact figure remains officially unconfirmed, reports suggest the layoffs may have affected up to 400 employees—roughly half of Bungie’s workforce. The cuts reflect mounting challenges at the studio, particularly the commercial underperformance of Marathon, released in March 2026, which has struggled to gain market traction. The leadership change and substantial workforce reduction signal significant restructuring at the studio, which has faced pressures from its live-service titles over recent months.
