Deltarune Chapter 5, the latest installment of Toby Fox’s episodic indie RPG, launched on June 24, 2026, following its announcement during a Nintendo Direct presentation earlier in the month. The release proved massively popular, with the game reaching nearly 300,000 concurrent players on Steam—more than double its previous all-time peak of approximately 133,920 players from June 2025. This surge propelled Deltarune into Steam’s top 10 most-played games, a remarkable achievement for a nearly decade-old single-player RPG.

The free update is available across multiple platforms, including Steam and Nintendo Switch (both original and Switch 2), though a crash issue was identified on console versions and addressed with a submitted hotfix.

Looking ahead, Toby Fox revealed development plans for Chapter 6 in an updated FAQ on the game’s Steam page. The developer is targeting a 2027 release for the next chapter, stating “We are aiming for a 2027 release! Meanwhile, we will be periodically releasing information on the development progress of the game.” Notably, the FAQ confirms the story continues beyond Chapter 5, though it remains unclear whether Chapter 6 will serve as the game’s final chapter. Fox did clarify that the completed game will feature only one ending.

Despite its irregular release schedule and the eight-year gap since the original 2018 launch, Deltarune continues to demonstrate sustained and growing player interest, with Chapter 5’s release generating significant engagement across the gaming community.
