Believe it or not, there was a push for a Destiny dating sim at Bungie once, and it had a proper pitch deck and everything

Bungie once entertained an internal pitch for a Destiny dating simulation game, according to former studio staff. Former community manager Liana Ruppert revealed that the team developed a proper proposal inspired by the indie game Dream Daddy, which would have incorporated romance and comedic elements into the Destiny universe. However, studio leadership quickly rejected the project, reportedly expressing no interest in romance or comedic content within the franchise.

The anecdote emerged when Ruppert shared the story on social media, noting that “the team actually made one” but that leadership gave a “very ‘Hard No.’” Robert Brookes, a former senior narrative designer at Bungie, also participated in the discussion, confirming the pitch’s existence. While neither staff member provided extensive details about the proposed game’s mechanics or scope, Ruppert emphasized that it was enjoyable to participate in the creative process despite the final rejection.

The revelation offers insight into Bungie’s internal creative culture and the sometimes divergent visions between development teams and leadership. It remains unclear how far along the dating sim concept progressed before being shelved.
