Diablo 4’s narrative saga known as the “Age of Hatred” has concluded with the release of the Lord of Hatred expansion. This three-part story arc encompassed the base game, the Vessel of Hatred expansion, and the newly released Lord of Hatred expansion.
The Age of Hatred saga represents an ambitious narrative undertaking for the Diablo franchise—Diablo 4 is the first game in the series to receive two story expansions. Throughout the saga, numerous new characters were introduced and subsequently killed off as the story progressed. Returning characters from previous Diablo games also appeared in the narrative but similarly met their end, resulting in a particularly brutal story arc filled with major character deaths.
With the Age of Hatred concluded, attention now turns to what Blizzard has planned next for the franchise. The upcoming BlizzCon 2026 is expected to be the stage where the company reveals its future direction for Diablo 4, whether through new story content, seasonal updates, or other expansions.
