‘I’m Mad Because This Was My Rank Up Game’ — Fighting Game Player-Turned-Sumo Wrestler Bodyslams Knife-Wielding Apex Legends Fan in New York City
On June 20, a dangerous situation unfolded at OS NYC, a gaming lounge in New York City, when Kofi “Koustics” Miller, a prominent fighting game community member, intervened in a knife-wielding incident. While streaming League of Legends on Twitch, Koustics stepped away from his setup to help de-escalate a confrontation between an Apex Legends player and venue staff. As the situation escalated, the aggressor brandished a knife, and peaceful attempts at moderation failed. Koustics intervened and escorted the man out of the building. When the armed individual attempted to re-enter, Koustics physically stopped him, throwing him to the ground and applying a choke hold until police arrived. The attacker sustained an injury when he fell on his own knife during the struggle. The incident was widely praised in the gaming community, with Koustics recognized for his quick thinking and heroic action in preventing what could have been a more serious outcome.
