A proper physical edition of Grand Theft Auto 6 will arrive before the year’s end, insider claims
Grand Theft Auto 6’s physical release strategy is evolving. Rockstar Games confirmed the November 19 launch will include a physical version on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, but only as a “code in a box”—the package contains a digital download code rather than a disc.
According to Polish gaming site PPE.pl and insider source Graczdari, this digital-code approach will be limited to the initial production run. A proper disc-based physical edition is reportedly scheduled for December 2026, arriving just weeks after launch.
Graczdari has established credibility on GTA 6 information, having correctly predicted in February that the game would not launch with physical discs. However, Take-Two Interactive (Rockstar’s parent company) previously denied plans for any future physical disc release, making this new claim somewhat contradictory.
Rockstar’s decision to delay the disc version appears tied to piracy prevention. Avoiding physical copies at launch prevents early leaks that could reach consumers before day one, protecting the game’s embargo and security.
If accurate, the December disc release would create a brief window where only the digital-code version is available, while still accommodating collectors and players who prefer physical media. The timeline also reflects manufacturing realities—producing physical discs is more complex than printing codes for retail distribution.
This development exemplifies industry-wide trends regarding physical media, as publishers increasingly delay or reconsider disc releases. For GTA 6, one of 2026’s most anticipated titles, a dual-release strategy balances Rockstar’s leak-prevention goals with consumer demand for tangible copies.
