Nintendo gives the first look at its new Kyoto development centre, the Technology Development Building

Nintendo has unveiled its new Technology Development Building, a dedicated research and development facility currently under construction adjacent to its headquarters in Kyoto, Japan. The company acquired the site in 2022.

The structure will span 10 floors—nine above ground and one basement level—with approximately 6,084 square metres of building area and a total floor area of 49,305 square metres. Originally designed as a 12-storey building, the final design was revised and is expected to be completed by the end of 2027.

The Technology Development Building will serve as Nintendo’s centralized innovation hub for software and hardware research and development. By consolidating R&D operations in a purpose-built facility directly adjacent to its main office, Nintendo aims to enhance collaboration and accelerate development across its engineering and innovation teams.

The investment reflects Nintendo’s strategic focus on advancing its technological capabilities during a significant period for the company. The new facility will support ongoing development for its existing platforms while also providing dedicated space for hardware research, enabling the company to explore future directions in gaming technology. This expansion of Nintendo’s R&D infrastructure highlights the company’s commitment to long-term innovation and maintaining its position as a leading force in the gaming industry.
