Pokémon Go ‘Flying Taxi: Taken Over’ event guide

Pokémon Go is running a limited-time “Flying Taxi” event from June 23 to June 29, featuring the introduction of Squawkabilly, a new pompadour bird Pokémon. The event includes standard limited-time offerings such as increased spawn rates and a special paid Go Pass.

As of June 25, the event escalated into a Team Go Rocket Takeover, bringing additional mechanics and rewards. Team Go Rocket members spawn more frequently throughout the game world, and players can use Charged Technical Machines to replace Frustration on Shadow Pokémon—a utility typically unavailable outside special events. Pokémon caught from one- and three-star shadow raids exhibit wider stat variance, potentially providing better-optimized creatures for competitive play.

Notably, this event provides no new Special Research task rewarding the Super Rocket Radar, an item required to battle Team Go Rocket leader Giovanni. Players must either purchase the event’s Go Pass or complete specific paid objectives to obtain it. This structure exemplifies Pokémon Go’s live-service model, where exclusive items and gameplay opportunities are gated behind both event participation and optional purchases.
