This free app puts Microsoft to shame by bringing widgets to the Windows 11 taskbar
A new free application called WidBar is gaining attention for enhancing Windows 11’s taskbar with functional widgets. Developed by Andrea Del Bello, the app addresses a notable gap in Microsoft’s Windows 11 Widgets Panel, which currently lacks quality widget options that users find genuinely useful.
WidBar allows users to populate the empty spaces on the Windows 11 taskbar with widgets, transforming an underutilized area of the operating system. The application gained visibility after being shared on Reddit, where Del Bello discussed its progress and capabilities.
Currently in beta, WidBar features a limited but growing widget library, including “Now Playing” and additional widgets. While the selection remains modest at this stage of development, the foundation demonstrates potential for expansion.
The significance of WidBar’s emergence is what it represents: a third-party developer successfully identifying and addressing a limitation that Microsoft itself has largely ignored. Windows 11’s native Widgets Panel has been criticized for its lack of compelling content and utility, making it one of the less-useful components of the operating system. WidBar’s approach of integrating widgets directly into the taskbar offers a more practical alternative to an area users interact with constantly.
As a beta application, WidBar is still early in development, suggesting both the widget library and functionality may expand considerably. The enthusiastic reception on platforms like Reddit indicates genuine user demand for better widget integration in Windows 11.
