Italy’s 34BigThings spins out from Embracer Group
Italian independent game developer 34BigThings has successfully spun out from Swedish video game conglomerate Embracer Group. The studio’s co-founder Valerio Di Donata has purchased 100% of the company’s stock, returning the studio to full independence.
The buyout positions 34BigThings as the second-largest independent game developer in Italy. The studio has built its reputation through titles including Carmageddon: Rogue Shift and the arcade racing game Redout.
Di Donata expressed enthusiasm about the studio’s newfound autonomy, stating that returning to independence allows the company to control its own structure, projects, and development approach. “It’s refreshing to be steering our own ship once more,” he said in a statement.
The studio has indicated that significant announcements are planned for later in the year, though further details remain undisclosed at this time. This move represents a notable shift as mid-size studios continue to seek independence from larger publishing conglomerates.
