Battlefield 6 is altering its long-range gunplay to feel more like Battlefield 4
Battlefield 6 is receiving a significant gunplay overhaul scheduled for June 30 with its Season 3 final update, called the High-Value Target patch. Battlefield Studios has designed the changes to make the game’s long-range combat feel more like the classic Battlefield 4, aiming to create more predictable weapon handling and recoil characteristics. The developer plans to discourage automatic fire at distance through adjustments to muzzle velocity and recoil mechanics, encouraging players to pace their shots at range.
The High-Value Target update includes additional improvements beyond gunplay changes, with enhancements to the game’s netcode and vehicle equipment tuning. New content additions feature a fresh multiplayer mode, a casual battle royale mode populated with AI bots, and a new melee weapon. The update also introduces a limited-time Wet Work event where players can earn rewards across Battlefield 6 and its companion game Redsec.
The overhaul comes as Battlefield 6 continues its recovery following a strong launch that subsequently lost player momentum due to widespread concerns about map design and seasonal structure. The studio has previously announced plans for seven new maps coming in 2026, including remakes of classic maps. The gunplay changes represent part of Battlefield Studios’ broader effort to address player feedback and improve the game’s core mechanics.
