FaZe Moves May Be Prudent, but frozen Must Leave to Win
FaZe Clan has announced significant roster changes in Counter-Strike, benching long-time AWPer Helvijs ‘broky’ Saukants and replacing him with BIG Academy’s Jason ‘JBOEN’ Boe Nielsen on a six-month loan agreement through the end of 2026. The move marks a pivotal shift in the organization’s competitive strategy.
The benching of broky comes after FaZe’s continued struggles in competitive play throughout April. This decision signals FaZe’s departure from their previous approach of assembling star-studded rosters featuring multiple world-class players. The organization has abandoned the “superteam” model that characterized their 2018 roster, which featured legendary players like Nikola ‘NiKo’ Kovač, Olof ‘Olofmeister’ Kajbjer, and Ladislav ‘Guardian’ Kovács.
According to FaZe Clan’s General Manager Kaysan ‘Kaysan’ Ghasseminejad, the organization is repositioning itself as a development project rather than pursuing immediate top-tier contention. This strategic pivot reflects both the current competitive landscape of Counter-Strike and practical considerations facing the esports organization.
The six-month loan structure for JBOEN suggests a transitional period as FaZe navigates its new direction in professional Counter-Strike, indicating a strategic shift toward developing emerging talent rather than acquiring established stars.
