Robot Chicken parodies Adult Swim for its 25th anniversary

Robot Chicken, the beloved stop-motion sketch comedy series created by Seth Green and Matthew Senreich, is celebrating its long association with Adult Swim by turning its satirical lens inward. The announcement of a special dedicated to parodying Adult Swim itself was revealed at the Annecy Festival, marking a unique milestone for the franchise.

Since launching on Adult Swim in 2005, Robot Chicken has built a reputation for irreverent parodies of major pop culture properties, including The Walking Dead, Star Wars, and DC Comics franchises. The upcoming August special will commemorate Adult Swim’s 25th anniversary—the programming block launched on September 2, 2001, as a Cartoon Network initiative for adult-oriented animation.

The inaugural Adult Swim lineup featured now-classic series including Cowboy Bebop, Sealab 2021, and Space Ghost Coast to Coast. Over the past quarter-century, the block has become known for launching experimental and comedic animated series with devoted followings. The new Robot Chicken special will celebrate this legacy by spoofing many of Adult Swim’s notable shows, including Aqua Teen Hunger Force and Rick and Morty.

This marks a meta moment for the franchise, as Robot Chicken itself has been central to Adult Swim’s identity and success for two decades. By satirizing the very network that has been its home, the series demonstrates the irreverent spirit that has defined both the show and the programming block.
