Kaiju anime Snowball Earth is getting a second season

The kaiju anime Snowball Earth has been greenlit for a second season, with the announcement arriving immediately after the season 1 finale aired on Friday. The series, available on Crunchyroll, Hulu, and Disney Plus, is produced by Toho Animation.

The renewal announcement was accompanied by a preview trailer featuring the show’s signature elements: giant kaiju, massive robots, supernatural elements (including a cursed cat), and distinctive character designs. The fact that animation content is already available for the teaser suggests production is well underway.

Snowball Earth follows Tetsuo, a shy protagonist whose only friend is Yukio, a giant robot. Together, they function as humanity’s defenders against invasive galactic monsters from space. The story unfolds a decade after an unspecified pivotal event, establishing the post-conflict setting where the series takes place. The narrative blends coming-of-age themes with large-scale sci-fi action, centered on the bond between the young protagonist and his mechanical companion.

While an official release date for season 2 has not yet been announced, the swift greenlit and existing animation work indicate the creators’ confidence in the series’ reception and their readiness to continue the story.
