New Warhammer 40,000 Animation Is Almost Entirely From the Perspective of a Single World Eaters Berzerker — and Now I Want a First-Person Chaos Space Marine Game
Games Workshop has announced a new Warhammer 40,000 animation titled The Butcher’s Nails, set to premiere on its Warhammer TV streaming platform. The show is centered on Makrath, a World Eaters Berzerker from the Chaos Space Marines faction, as he leads an assault alongside the Iron Warriors faction against loyalist Space Marines and soldiers of the Astra Militarum.
The announcement was made during Games Workshop’s Big Summer Preview showcase. The animated series is shot almost entirely from a first-person perspective, following the carnage through the eyes of the berzerker protagonist. This stylistic choice has sparked fan interest in the potential for a first-person Warhammer 40K game, contrasting with the third-person action of the popular Space Marine 2, which has established itself as the franchise’s premier video game adaptation.
The first-person framing of the animation highlights an unexplored perspective in Warhammer 40K gaming—that of Chaos Space Marines—and demonstrates the IP’s continuing expansion across media formats beyond video games. The Butcher’s Nails represents Games Workshop’s ongoing strategy to develop their intellectual property through animated content on their dedicated streaming service.
