Windows 10 gets yet another year of life as Microsoft extends security updates into 2027

Microsoft has extended Extended Security Updates (ESU) for Windows 10, pushing the final support deadline to October 2027. Originally announced in 2024, Windows 10 support was set to end in October 2025, but Microsoft introduced ESU to allow users to remain on the platform longer.

The ESU program costs $30 per device or is available free to eligible users. While ESU provides ongoing security patches to protect systems from emerging threats, it does not include feature updates, which have already concluded as part of standard Windows 10 support.

This extension reflects Windows 10’s enduring popularity among users and organizations that prefer it to newer Windows versions. The additional year provides more time for businesses and consumers to plan upgrades or continue operating securely on Windows 10 without immediate pressure to migrate to newer platforms.

The move addresses widespread user reluctance to upgrade, offering an alternative pathway for those not yet ready to adopt the latest Windows operating systems.
