Forget PowerToys, Windows 11 needs this feature immediately

Microsoft should integrate PowerToys’ AltWindowCycle feature directly into Windows 11 to improve multitasking capabilities, according to Windows Central. The utility allows users to switch between windows using keyboard shortcuts in a more refined way than the standard Alt+Tab functionality, working within specific application contexts rather than cycling through all open windows globally.

This proposal follows Microsoft’s previous adoption of ideas from PowerToys, most notably the FancyZones feature, which inspired the improved window snapping capabilities in Windows 11. The AltWindowCycle feature represents another opportunity for Microsoft to incorporate community-tested functionality into its core operating system.

PowerToys, Microsoft’s suite of advanced productivity utilities for Windows power users, continues to serve as an incubator for features that demonstrate genuine value in real-world workflows. Rather than developing features entirely in-house, Microsoft has shown willingness to learn from its experimental tools and incorporate proven concepts into the main Windows experience.

Including AltWindowCycle in Windows 11 would streamline window management for users who frequently switch between multiple applications, reducing the cognitive load of managing complex workspaces. The feature’s integration into the OS would make it available to all Windows 11 users without requiring separate software installation, addressing a gap in native Windows multitasking tools.
