Star Wars Eclipse “literally cannot be finished” without more staff, insist striking Quantic Dream developers

Star Wars Eclipse faces potential cancellation following Quantic Dream’s announcement of 115 developer layoffs as part of an internal restructuring. The closure of the studio’s early-access MOBA game Spellcasters Chronicles (launched February 2026) triggered the redundancies, though management initially claimed the High Republic-era Star Wars title would continue unaffected.

Striking developers, supported by French video game union STJV, dispute this assessment. In statements to media outlets, staff including a developer identified as Jules have warned that the game is currently understaffed and “literally cannot be finished” without retaining additional personnel. Jules emphasized the strike is “far from being an act of sabotage,” characterizing it instead as an effort to “save Star Wars Eclipse” from cancellation.

The standoff highlights ongoing tensions in video game development over workforce stability and project viability. The layoffs represent a significant challenge for a title that’s been in development since its 2021 announcement. While Quantic Dream has attempted to reassure stakeholders that Eclipse remains unaffected by reorganisation plans, developer testimony suggests substantial risk to the project’s completion if staffing levels are reduced as proposed.
