Five Nights at Freddy’s 3 Enlists It and Annabelle Writer for Its Script

Gary Dauberman has been hired to write the script for Five Nights at Freddy’s 3, marking active development on the next installment of the film franchise based on the popular horror game series. Dauberman is well-known for his work on horror films, including the 2017 It reboot and the Annabelle series. More recently, he has entered the video game adaptation space, having written 2025’s Until Dawn and consulted on the story for this year’s Street Fighter film.

The hiring is being handled by Blumhouse, Atomic Monster, and Universal, confirming that the production companies are moving forward with the third FNAF movie. The move suggests that the studios are looking to bring fresh creative energy to the franchise’s film adaptations through an experienced horror writer.

One surprising element of the announcement is the absence of Scott Cawthon, the series creator, from the writing credits. Cawthon has maintained close involvement with every aspect of the Five Nights at Freddy’s franchise since its inception, making his non-involvement in the script-writing process a notable departure from his previous hands-on approach to the property’s adaptations.
