Rumour: PS6 Costs Sony Almost $1,000 to Make Right Now

Hardware analyst KeplerL2 has predicted that PlayStation 6 manufacturing costs currently stand at approximately $960 per unit, according to Push Square. This estimate represents a significant increase from KeplerL2’s earlier March 2026 projection of a $760 Bill of Materials (BoM).

Despite the elevated manufacturing costs, KeplerL2 has previously maintained optimism about PlayStation 6’s commercial viability, suggesting a subsidised launch price of $699 when the console eventually releases. This would align with Sony’s traditional strategy of absorbing hardware losses at launch to drive adoption and recoup costs through software and services revenue over the console’s lifecycle.

These figures remain speculative, as Sony has not officially announced PlayStation 6 specifications, release timing, or pricing. The predictions are based on component cost estimates and manufacturing projections rather than confirmed hardware specifications. Manufacturing costs typically decline over time through component optimisation and economies of scale, suggesting the $960 figure may represent early-stage production expenses rather than final launch manufacturing costs.
