To get Thief Remastered’s cutscenes right, Nightdive brought on the dev behind the 1998 originals
Nightdive Studios is bringing an original developer back to help perfect the cutscenes for Thief: The Dark Project Remastered. Daniel Thron, an artist from Looking Glass Studios who worked on the 1998 original, is assisting the remaster team in recreating the game’s cinematics.
The original Thief cutscenes were constrained by significant technology limitations, featuring low resolution and restricted frame rates. By leveraging modern technology with Thron’s guidance, Nightdive aims to deliver the cutscenes in 4K while carefully preserving the distinctive visual style of the 1998 release.
This collaborative approach reflects Nightdive’s commitment to authenticity in their remaster efforts. Studio head Stephen Kick and producer Daniel Grayshon outlined the collaboration during an episode of Nightdive’s Deep Dive podcast, emphasizing that having the original artist involved ensures the enhanced version captures the essence of the classic game. The remastered cutscenes will provide a significant visual upgrade while maintaining visual continuity with the original work.
