Game of Thrones has a long history of very mediocre-to-bad games, with one unexpected exception

Game of Thrones was a cultural phenomenon from its 2011 premiere through 2019, becoming one of the last major examples of true monoculture television. However, the show’s final season fundamentally damaged its reputation with poorly executed character arcs, rushed storytelling, and questionable creative decisions that overshadowed the series’ earlier success.

Despite the show’s controversial conclusion, HBO and parent company Warner Bros. Discovery have continued efforts to sustain the Game of Thrones franchise. The company has launched well-received spinoff series including House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, attempting to rebuild audience trust and keep the intellectual property relevant in popular culture.

Beyond television, the Game of Thrones franchise has extended into gaming, though the video game adaptations have historically received mediocre-to-poor reception from critics and players. However, the franchise’s video game library does include at least one notable exception that stood out from the typical poor quality associated with most Game of Thrones games.
